about

Nautilus/Ammonite

A double A-side by Kissing

Kissing is the moniker for Brighton-based duo PB and Moon. They make retrofuturistic songs arranged for two singers, accompanied by a blend of synthesizers and folk instruments. Their lyrical inspiration spans magic realism, mythology, masculinity, metamorphosis, and motorways. When they play live, they use ritualistic gestures, dance, and playful homespun stagecraft to conjure up a tender realm. Kissing are both gender non-binary. They like to purposefully undercut the classic macho coolness of rock bands, switching it for a perspective that’s altogether softer and queerer. This carries into their creative practice, where PB and Moon collaborate in a non-hierarchical fashion on every aspect of the project.

Nautilus/Ammonite (or n/a for short) is a double A-side, which will be released on May 1st, 2020, via OK Pal Records. The duo describes this project as a “venture into the made-up genre of archaeocosmic wonky pop”. The two tracks were conceived together and share interlinked lyrical imagery and a glowing synth soundworld. They also mix cyclically into one another, so the songs can be played back to back to back. ‘Nautilus’ is all about cosmic cycles and the life cycles of humans and animals. Whereas ‘Ammonite’ covers such cheery topics as the inanimacy of creatures and cultures in museum collections, and the fragility of beliefs based on perception.
